Flitwick Surgery is supporting a pilot NHS England Lung Health Checks programme being run by the Luton and Dunstable Hospital.
This programme is inviting all smokers and ex smokers aged 55 to 74 to have a free lung health check to try and pick up lung cancer at an earlier stage.
The health check will be conducted by a lung specialist nurse and will involve discussion around lung cancer symptoms, general health and smoking cessation advice (as appropriate). The results of this will then be used to calculate a person’s individual lung cancer risk. Anyone at high risk of lung cancer will be invited to have a low-dose CT scan.
Letters will be sent out with a dedicated phone number or email address for patients to contact and find out more information from the Lung Health Team at the Luton and Dunstable Hospital.
This pilot has the go ahead to become a national screening programme to expanded across England.
